Why we started Ulvoryx
Most outdoor advice falls into one of two traps. It is either written for hardcore athletes — ultralight thru-hikes, alpine summits, kit lists that cost a fortune — or it is a thin excuse to sell you something. Either way, it can leave a curious beginner feeling like the outdoors is a members-only club. We wanted a third option: clear, honest writing for people who just want to get outside safely, on a normal budget, with a normal amount of free time.
Ulvoryx started in 2026 as a set of notes between friends who kept trading tips on trails, tents, and what to pack. Those notes turned into articles, and the articles turned into this. Today we publish practical guides across four areas — hiking and trails, camping, gear, and destinations — all built on the same belief: the right preparation and a little knowledge let anyone go further outside, and come home safe.
What you can expect
Every article is written or edited by someone who has actually walked the trails, slept in the tents, and worn out the boots we describe. We favour depth over volume, we update guides when conditions or products change, and we are upfront about what we don't know. When we recommend gear, it is because we'd recommend it to a friend heading out for the first time — not because someone paid us to.
Above all, we take safety seriously. The outdoors is wonderful and it is also unpredictable, so we are clear about risks and always point you toward checking current conditions and local rules. We write about routes, skills, and kit we have actually used outdoors. If a tip only works in perfect weather with unlimited budget, we say so.

Our guidance is independent. We are never paid to recommend a trail or a piece of gear, and we keep advertising clearly separate from editorial.

Getting outside should be joyful and responsible. We put your safety first and champion Leave No Trace, so the places we love stay worth visiting.

The team
Who writes Ulvoryx
Rowan grew up with a pack on their back and has spent two decades on trails from local greenways to long-distance routes. They founded Ulvoryx because the outdoors shouldn't feel like a members-only club — good information, honestly given, is what gets people outside and keeps them safe. They still get lost occasionally, and say so.
Sierra is a thru-hiker and former trail crew volunteer who writes about walking long distances and the small skills that make it bearable. She's blistered, bonked, and bailed enough times to be deeply practical about it. She believes the best hike is the one you actually finish — and live to repeat.
Caleb is a gear nerd who has tested more boots, tents, and stoves than he'd care to admit. He writes clear, hype-free reviews and how-tos for people who want kit that works, not kit that's trendy. His rule of thumb: the best gear is the lightest thing that does the job without failing on you.
